Vehicles for This Route
For half an hour of driving the priority is getting the whole party and its gear into one vehicle. The 2025 Cadillac Escalade and 2026 Chevrolet Suburban each seat up to five with luggage inside and skis and boards in a rooftop carrier, which suits a couple, a family of four or a small executive party. Either is the usual choice for a Park Hyatt or Ritz-Carlton stay.
For six or more, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz Executive Sprinter seats up to 13 and the 2025 Ford Transit up to 14, both with skis and boards riding inside. On this route the Sprinter is popular with corporate groups arriving for a retreat at one of the village hotels and with extended families meeting at a Bachelor Gulch residence. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is available by request.
All SUVs and vans are AWD or 4WD on winter tires and carry Wi-Fi and bottled water. Child seats in rear-facing, forward-facing and booster configurations are installed before the vehicle reaches the airport. When booking, give us passenger count, checked bags, ski and board count, and child seat needs, and we will confirm the vehicle. The Drive
From the airport the vehicle joins I-70 eastbound at exit 140, and the interstate follows the Eagle River upvalley. The first stretch passes the town of Eagle and runs through open country where the valley is wide and the road is straight. The grade is gentle and steady the whole way; there is no summit to cross and no tunnel. In clear conditions the highway portion takes about 20 minutes.
Exit 167 at Avon is where the route leaves the interstate. Avon is the town at the base of Beaver Creek, and the road south from the exit crosses the river and the valley floor, passes the town’s shops and lodging, and climbs toward the resort entrance. Beaver Creek is a gated resort with a village entry, and the gate is where the public road ends and the resort’s private road system begins. Your chauffeur handles the gate.
Above the gate the road climbs to the village at the base of the slopes. Turnoffs along the way lead to the Bachelor Gulch road, which winds up to The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch and the residences around it, and to the ski-in, ski-out homes on the village side. Arrowhead, at the western end of the resort, has its own access a short distance west of Avon and is a separate drop rather than a continuation through the village.
The seasonal hazards on this route are modest compared with the passes but real. The lower valley between Gypsum and Eagle sees blowing snow across the highway in wind, the shaded sections near Avon hold ice in the morning, and the resort roads above the gate are steep enough that a two-wheel-drive rental car can struggle on a fresh snow morning. Our SUVs and Sprinters are AWD or 4WD on winter tires and climb the resort roads without drama. Plan on about 30 minutes in good conditions and 35 to 50 minutes on a stormy or holiday day.
When the Road Closes
Neither of the I-70 chokepoints that trouble the drive from Denver, the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass, is on this route. Both lie east of Vail, and a car coming up from Eagle never approaches them. On a day when Vail Pass is closed and the Denver arrivals are stuck in Summit County, the Eagle to Beaver Creek transfer runs on schedule. That is the strongest practical argument for flying into EGE for a Beaver Creek trip.
What can affect this route is a closure of I-70 itself between Eagle and Avon, usually for a crash, and closures of that kind are generally short. When one happens we hold at the airport or in Eagle rather than trying a frontage road detour in a storm, and we keep you informed of the reopening.
The Colorado Traction Law is in force from September 1 through May 31 between Morrison and Dotsero on I-70, and exit 140 at the airport is inside that zone. On a storm day the law requires AWD or 4WD with adequate winter, all-weather or mud-and-snow tread, or chains or approved traction devices. Every SUV and Sprinter in our fleet meets that standard for the entire season. The resort roads above the gate are plowed early and often, but they are steep, and the same equipment that satisfies the traction law is what makes the climb to Bachelor Gulch routine.
Where We Meet You
EGE is a single-terminal airport, and your chauffeur will be in one of two places, whichever you chose when you booked.
Inside the terminal, at baggage claim, with a name sign. This is the meet most families choose. The chauffeur is at the carousel when you arrive, takes the bags as they come off, including ski bags, and walks the whole party out to the vehicle. Child seats you requested are already installed.
Or outside, at the ground transportation lot beyond Door 6. Walk out with your bags and the vehicle is a few steps away. Regulars who know the airport often prefer this because it is the fastest way from carousel to road.
Your flight is tracked from the moment it leaves the ground at your origin. EGE is a mountain airport with fewer flights than Denver and a greater sensitivity to weather, so inbound flights are sometimes held, delayed or diverted. None of that requires a call from you: the pickup moves with the actual arrival, and if the airline diverts you to another airport we rebuild the pickup around where you land. When a flight cancels and you are rebooked for the next morning, the reservation moves with you.
Where We Drop Off
Beaver Creek is a gated resort, and where you are staying determines the last few minutes of the drive. The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek is in the heart of the village at the foot of the slopes, with a motor court our chauffeurs use every winter day. The Osprey and The Pines Lodge sit on the upper village roads near the lifts. Each has its own arrival area and each is a door-to-door drop with bags handed to the bell staff.
The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch is reached by its own road that leaves the main resort route and climbs to the hotel’s porte-cochere. Allow a few extra minutes for the climb. Private residences at Bachelor Gulch, along the Beaver Creek village roads and at Arrowhead are served the same way; give us the address and any gate or driveway instructions when you book and your chauffeur will bring the vehicle to the door.
Avon, below the gate, is the drop for guests staying in the town’s hotels and condominiums, a few minutes from the resort. We also serve Avon and Beaver Creek restaurants, private clubs, the ski base for day guests, and event venues for weddings and corporate retreats, coordinating the drop point with your planner when that is useful.
Private Car vs Shared Shuttle vs Rideshare vs Rental
Shared shuttles from EGE run to Avon and Beaver Creek on a schedule, and for a solo traveler with one bag they are a workable option. The half-hour drive can become an hour with waiting and stops, and shuttles generally do not go past the gate to a specific residence, so a Bachelor Gulch or Arrowhead home means a second leg.
Rideshare at EGE is limited in supply, and it drops further in snow and at the hours most flights land. A driver unfamiliar with the resort may not know how the gate works or where the hotel’s arrival court is. For the trip back, a rideshare summoned to a gated resort before dawn on a winter morning is not a plan to build a flight around.
A rental car is a reasonable choice for a guest who will drive to Vail or elsewhere in the valley every day. Against it, weigh the counter wait after landing, the traction law, the steep resort roads on a snow morning, and the reality that Beaver Creek is designed around walking and lifts rather than driving. Many families rent a car and leave it parked for the week.
