Getting to Breckenridge
Two commercial airports serve Breckenridge, and the choice usually comes down to flight schedules rather than drive time.
Denver International is the first choice for most travelers because of the number of nonstop flights. The drive is about 104 miles and takes about 1 hour 50 minutes in normal conditions, or 2 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours in winter and on holiday weekends. From the terminal your chauffeur takes I-70 west through Floyd Hill, Idaho Springs and Georgetown, climbs to the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel at 11,158 feet on the Continental Divide, passes the Silverthorne and Dillon exit at 205, and leaves the interstate at Frisco, exit 203. Highway 9 runs south for the last 10 miles along the Blue River into town. Eagle County Regional Airport in Gypsum is the second option. It is about 75 miles from Breckenridge and the drive takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, or 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes in winter. The route runs I-70 east past Avon and Vail, climbs Vail Pass at 10,662 feet, descends past Copper Mountain and exits at Frisco for Highway 9 south. EGE has nonstop winter flights from many hubs but fewer daily departures than DIA and more sensitivity to weather, which matters for a return flight. Winter Roads and Closures
For a Breckenridge arrival from Denver, the Eisenhower Tunnel is the piece of road that decides your day. It closes for storms, crashes and hazmat holds, and when I-70 is shut east of the tunnel there is an alternate: US-285 southwest to Fairplay, then Highway 9 north over Hoosier Pass at 11,542 feet and straight down into Breckenridge. Our chauffeurs know the decision point for that detour and take it when the interstate is going to stay closed longer than the extra driving would take.
Coming from EGE, the equivalent choke point is Vail Pass, which closes several times each winter. There is no short alternate around it, so we hold at a sensible spot and time the reopening rather than send you hundreds of miles around.
Colorado’s Traction Law is in force on I-70 between Morrison and Dotsero every year from September 1 to May 31. It requires AWD or 4WD with adequate tread on winter, all-weather or M+S tires, or chains or an approved traction device. Our SUVs and Sprinters meet it every day of the season on winter tires, so you never think about it. Your chauffeur watches the forecast and CDOT conditions before leaving Breckenridge and will suggest an earlier pickup when a storm is moving in.
Where We Pick Up and Drop Off in Breckenridge
Breckenridge is compact but spread across several bases and a long Main Street, and where you are staying determines the drop.
Main Street and the Historic District are the center of town, with restaurants, shops and the BreckConnect gondola terminal that carries skiers up to Peak 8. Parking is tight all winter, so a chauffeured drop at the door is worth more here than almost anywhere else in Summit County. Peak 8 is reached by Ski Hill Road and is home to One Ski Hill Place and the Grand Colorado on Peak 8; both have covered arrival areas where we unload skis and bags directly to the bell staff. The Peak 9 base sits at the bottom of Park Avenue, with Beaver Run and the condominium buildings around it. Peak 7 residences are a short drive above town, and we serve them door to door along with the neighborhoods on the north side of town and the homes south along the Blue River.
For private residences and rental homes, tell us the exact address when you book. Some driveways above town are steep and narrow, and we assign the vehicle accordingly. If a property manager holds the keys or a door code, we coordinate the arrival time so nobody stands in the cold. For departures, the chauffeur arrives a few minutes early, loads at the door, and confirms the flight time before leaving town.
Getting Around Breckenridge Without a Rental Car
Most of our Breckenridge guests never need a car. Town is walkable once you are there, and for everything else there is a chauffeur a phone call away.
Dinner is the most common request. We collect you at your lodging, drop you on Main Street or at a restaurant in the Historic District, and pick you up when you are ready, with no walk back to a cold car and no hunting for a space. Planning Your Departure from Breckenridge
For a DIA flight, plan the pickup around the drive time plus 30 to 45 minutes of winter margin plus your airline’s check-in window. In good conditions that means leaving Breckenridge a little over three hours before a domestic departure; in a storm or on a holiday weekend, earlier. Sunday afternoons and holiday Mondays are the slowest eastbound periods on I-70, so a Sunday afternoon flight deserves extra margin. Your chauffeur will recommend a time when you book and will call the day before if the forecast has changed.
For an EGE flight, the drive is shorter but crosses Vail Pass, so the same weather margin applies. We recommend confirming your flight status the morning of departure, since EGE schedules move with weather. Whichever airport you use, the chauffeur arrives early, loads at your door and drops you at the terminal curb.
